  1. Wait, this is the last episode of the year? Is there gonna be no “best music of 2012” Episode? I loved the one you guys made for last year’s…

Anyway, I’ve never played any of the Jet set Radio games, but the music’s really interesting… I think I actually prefer Future’s style though, specially “Concept of Love”. The music in the first game is very original, but i can see myself getting tired of listening to it after a while.

  2. This makes me want to break out Jet Set Radio on my Vita (it’s free for PS Plus users!) and finish it. It’s a difficult game though, and its controls have not aged well in the slightest. As much as I love the game I feel like a lot of the difficulty comes from fighting with those bad controls. I hope Jet Set Radio Future gets an HD re-release too.

Nevertheless, Jet Set Radio’s soundtrack is so much fun to listen to, and there were some pretty great picks here like “Humming the Bassline,” “Rock it On” and “Everybody Jump Around.” Would have loved to hear “Sneakman,” that’s one of my favorites. I also love the “Jet Set Medley” that combines a lot of those awesome tracks into one.

I love how “Grace and Glory” plays around with the Stereo mix, shifting from left to right. It’s a cool effect.

That Amen Break thing blows my mind. I found that Youtube documentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SaFTm2bcac

Also because of this episode I ended up watching the Godzilla 2000 trailer, and the music video for Superbeast. Almost had a seizure.

I also enjoyed the random Jet Set Radio sound effects you guys threw in.

I concur with BladedFalcon! I liked the retrospective on 2011 last year, and this year had some amazing soundtracks (Journey, Double Dragon Neon, Hotline Miami, FTL, Max Payne 3, The Witcher 2 (Xbox 360), Retro City Rampage, heck even Black Ops II!).

  4. I kinda wish Sega had stuck with the Xbox. JSRF was so freaking awesome.

Now, a question remains unanswered: should the architects of this episode be collectively called Scave Dutterworth, or Dott Budden?

  5. You guys just earned a donation.

  6. My prayers have been answered. Now just do Katamari and Persona and my life will be complete.

  7. I never played the actual retail game of Jet Grind Radio on my Dreamcast. I had a demo of it on one of those Demo Discs the Dreamcast Official Magazine used to give out. Played the heck out of it. It’s amazing – hearing Humming the Baseline instantly brings back memories of that demo. I’m not the biggest fan of Sega for some of the things they’ve done with Sonic over the years, but they almost always make good music and tend to make very original games.

  8. Great episode but I’m upset by the lack of Sneakman and Teknopathetic.

  9. Great episode but like others have said, distinct lack of sneakman which is my favorite song from the first game. I could listen to humming the bassline all day

  10. That sample in Let Mom Sleep about the radio, “Will you stop playing with that radio of yours. I’m trying to get to sleep”), it’s from an episode of the Tony Hancock Show called ‘The Radio Ham’. The line was spoken by actress Annie Leake. The only reason I know this is because it was also used as a sample in the song Too Funky by George Michael.

  11. Cool, just picked it up on XBLA, never played the original but I’m liking it so far.

  12. First thing first, Happy 2013 VGMpire, been having a blast hearing your podcast and listening to the awesome music you put on the show that sometime i actually buy the soundtrack (Ex. Scott Pilgrim)

Anyway, If you have time in 2013, could you possibly do a episode of kingdom hearts, that series has one of the most amazing music i heard over the years and would like to hear your guys opinion on the music and the story

PS: MY overall FAVORITE music for the series is “L’Oscurità dell’Ignot” from Kingdom hearts 3ds

  13. Bad news, everyone! Unfortunately, Matt Groening best series (you heard me) is going into that dark knight… again. Entertainment Weekly reports that Comedy Central has decided not to renew the show after the final set of 13 episodes starts airing in June
