  1. Oh YES! Elston, you are the man.

  2. Oh WOW. Another VGMpire!! Sweet!!

I never really got into the modern era Contra games. I remember going to my older brother’s house and yeah Patrick that first boss with the baby face backside was gross.

  3. I haven’t gotten all the way through the episode, but I am surprised you skipped Legacy of War. As crappy of a game it was, the soundtrack had several good cuts and used to get me keyed up for a test or midterm back in the day. Having said that, these picks are great.

    • Yeah I’ve heard that Legacy of War’s music is great, but there’s only so much we can fit into a single podcast. Definitely gotta bunker down and check out the PS1 OSTs.

  4. Another Contra VGMpire?! It’s like Rocktober in July….and August.

  5. Hey guys! Great to have you back. After playing so many of the hits in the first episode (and having fallen off the Contra bandwagon after Alien Wars), I wasn’t too excited about this episode. Boy, was I in for a treat. I can only describe my feelings about these later Contra entries the way I subsequently described them to my buddy: Metal Cheese.

I’m a budding VGM enthusiast, so it was really exciting to learn more about one of my favorite retro series. Keep up the good work! Wish I didn’t have to wait so long for the next episode. 😉

I don’t do a lot of the social medias. Do you guys have an e-mail set up for the podcast in case anyone wants to write in with comments or requests?

    Thanks!

  6. I have loved both of these Contra episodes so much! I have rarely even played Contra at all, and most entries I haven’t played a single second of, but listening to this music was fantastic. I really loved hearing the changes over time, as I do whenever you cover such a long-running series on your show. Thanks guys!

  7. I’m glad i’m not the only fan of the Neo Contra vocal opening track. The lyrics are the best lyrics of all lyrics!
“Now Mephistopheles induces you into hell
Join the death pilgrimage, destroy and dispel, oh
    Humanity’s future rests with you
    Oh – Neo Contra! “

  8. Great episode!! Glad you guys are still bringing the content. I started my trip down Vgmpire rabbit hole back in November of 2018 and have just caught up to this episode today 8/17/19. I must say you guys have brought back so many good memories of my past experiences with the NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, Game Boy, and Playstation music. I used to record SNES music on cassette tapes on my boom box that had an audio out, then graduated to Mini Disc in 2001, I was rabid for Mega Man X, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Saga Frontier, and Sonic CD tracks. Loved your Toshinden 2 episode, I listen to that red book audio album to this day, and I would really love for you guys to put out another Sega CD episode with SMT, Sol-Feace, and more Sonic CD tracks if possible. Again I extremely appreciate what you guys do, and hope to hear more episodes in the future. Keep up the good work!!
